Early March 2024

In Like a Honey Badger? 9u, 10u & 13u Teams start March off with Wins

While this month may typically come in like a Lion, March of 2024 came in like a Honey Badger as both the 9u and 13u teams had a successful weekend and the 10u team followed with some big hitting in their Monday night doubleheader.

For the 9u girls, one of the most active and successful 9u programs in the region, Saturday featured four games against strong opponents playing in a 1-day 10u Tournament at RAW Athletics in New Castle, PA. After an awesome start to the day saw the Honey Badgers 9u pickup a 9-0 win, they then faced the Tri County Surge in Pool Play and then Bracket play, winning 5-3 and 7-1 respectively. However, after making just one error in the first three games combined, the defense struggled against the Ohio Outlaws 10u as the Honey Badgers made 4 errors in a 9-1 loss. In all, it was a successful day as the girls outscored their opponents 22-13 on the day with Kinze picking up 3 hits and 3 RBI, Nadia with 2 hits and an RBI and Lily getting 2 hits and driving in 5 runs.

For the 13u girls, fresh off a scrimmage the night before, Coach Nicole Fiddler's 13u team waited until the 5th inning of their game at Sluggers 13u to bring out the bats, knocking 6 hits in a 9-2 win. Bella Mattern's clutch pitching saved the day for the Honey Badgers in relief, shutting the opponents' bats down in the 1st inning to keep the game close. Finally, in the top of the 5th inning, the bats came to life as the ladies took advantage of their opportunity to strike. After seeing the bases loaded by walks, Addie Fiddler singled to center to setup the play of the game for the Honey Badgers. Karsen Mateja followed by driving in the tying and go-ahead runs as she doubled to left to put the ladies up 3-2. From here, the Honey Badgers poured it on with hits from Josie Wileman and Elizabeth Jernigan to finish the inning and lock in the 9-2 win to start the Spring/Summer season.

Not to be left out of all of the early March action, the 10u Honey Badgers started the week off with a Monday night doubleheader with Thunder Elite Sitka 10u. The Honey Badgers came out strong in the first game pounding out 8 hits including two doubles as they won the opener 6-2 as Kacey pitched a gem. In Game 2 it was Thunder Elite who had the hot bats as three different pitchers could not slow down the opponent's offense. While Mia, Abbi and Addie each had 2 hits in the second game, the Honey Badgers had to settle for a doubleheader split dropping this one 10-7.
