Late March 2024
Honey Badgers wrap up March with strong indoor play
Living in Ohio and Pennsylvania, the Honey Badgers and their families know that the weather can change this time of year in a matter of minutes, and it can be 65 degrees one day, and 25 degrees the next. With this in mind, the Honey Badgers organization stayed busy playing indoors in March to prepare for getting outside onto the new-look Honey Badger field in April. Here is a look at how each team wrapped up their indoor play in March.
18u Showcase - Many of the 18u girls are hard at work representing their school softball teams as they keep their focus locally. They will return to action in early June and we wish them well this Spring!
13u Fiddler - Honey Badgers 13u started their 2024 Spring/Summer season with three games in March, all indoors at Sluggers as they look forward to being outside in April. After a 9-2 win over Sluggers 13u on March 2nd, the ladies made some fine defensive plays as Randi Blackann had double and a home run in a 5-5 tie with Valley Rage 13u. They finished the month of March with a 18-3 win over Youngstown Phoenix 13u pounding out 11 hits as Kristina Kushner, Karsen Mateja and Autumn Miller had 2 hits apiece and Addie Fiddler drove in 4 in the win.
The 13u team will now be outdoors moving forward with a busy month of April where they have 6 games scheduled to prepare for tournament season.
10u Brindle - The 10u Honey Badgers have played 5 games in the month of March. After a busy first week of March, the 10u team is now focusing on preparing the team for tournament play which beings in late April. They will look to improve upon their 2-2-1 record this month when they face the Ohio Cobras 10u this weekend at YSU's WATTS Center.
9u Mattern - The most active Honey Badgers team of them all, the 9u Badgers have played 7 games in the month of March going 5-2. Most recently, they won 20-6 over Valley Extreme 2k13 10u at Sluggers where the girls showed their patience and discipline at the plate as Nadia led the team with 2 hits and an RBI and Jesse scored a team high 3 runs. Four pitchers allowed just 3 hits for the Honey Badgers as they look to continue to build on their success heading into the warmer months of the year.
8u Ohl - While the Honey Badgers 8u Ohl did not have any March games, the coaches and players are hard at work preparing for the Spring/Summer season. Earlier this month they worked on team building and then added to their staff with Coach Mark joining them in mid-March as they prepare for a May 4th season opener in Pennsylvania.
8u Steele - The Honey Badgers 8u Steele was busy on March 23rd and 24th playing four games in two days and they made sure to bring their bats with them! Scoring 59 runs in four games, the 8u Steele team went 2-2 beating the Warriors and Rise 360 teams with 38 runs in the two wins. While they managed to score 21 runs in the two losses, these young Honey Badgers brought some great energy all weekend. In the four games combined, five different Honey Badgers had 10+ hits led by 13 from Brooklyn, 12 from Olivia, 11 by Addie and 10 apiece by Riley and Carmen. The Honey Badgers 8u Steele will return to game action in late April.
